FACILITATING THE LABYRINTH - A SPIRITUAL PATH ...

The goal of Veriditas Labyrinth Facilitator Training is to prepare people to introduce others to the labyrinth in an articulate, professional and effective way. The training addresses both meditative walking and ceremonial use. It is focused primarily on the Eleven Circuit Medieval Labyrinth but is inclusive of all forms.

Walking the labyrinth is being embraced as a spiritual practice throughout the Western world mostly because of Veriditas trained facilitators. The Veriditas Facilitator Training -- which began in 1997 -- remains the most rigorous and comprehensive training offered. Some people take this two-day course to deepen their knowledge of labyrinths. Others take it with the goal of becoming a Veriditas Certified Labyrinth Facilitator.

To date, Veriditas has trained more than 5,000 labyrinth facilitators -- therapists, clergy, hospital administrators, parish teams, doctors, artists and labyrinth enthusiasts -- who are introducing the labyrinth to their communities. More than 2,000 people are now Veriditas Certified Labyrinth Facilitators.

why train as a facilitator

Our experience has taught us that if a person does not have a satisfying first experience, they do not easily return to walk again. Over the years a body of knowledge about labyrinths, their history and how to use them effectively has developed. However, there are common mistakes and misconceptions, e.g. that there is a 'right way' to walk a labyrinth or interrupting someone's experience due to the presenter's discomfort with emotion. Benefit from Lauren Artress' extensive experience and knowledge as Australian Veriditas Trainers take you through a 16 hour face to face comprehensive program that is a behind-the-scenes conversation about using these powerful archetypal patterns as blue prints for transformation. 

steps to get trained

Training as a labyrinth facilitator is a two step process. Firstly, a Qualifying Workshop must be attended, and then a two day Facilitator Training workshop must be completed. If you prefer to allow some time between the workshops, you will need to show evidence of your Qualifying Workshop attendance when you register for the Facilitator Training workshop. 

BASIC LABYRINTH FACILITATOR TRAINING (BLFT)

The goal of Veriditas Labyrinth Facilitator Training is to prepare people to introduce others to the labyrinth in an articulate, professional and effective way. The training addresses meditative walking, ceremonial use, and private and public community events. It is focused primarily on the Eleven Circuit Medieval Labyrinth but is inclusive of all forms.  A comprehensive Australian edition of the Veriditas Training Manual is included in the course fee.

what happens in a qualifying workshop

If you are new to the labyrinth and are wanting to experience a labyrinth walk in a facilitated group setting, attending one of these workshops is a great place to start. If you are wanting to attend Veriditas Labyrinth Facilitator Training, it is important for you to attend a qualifying workshop first for an embodied experience of the labyrinth as Veriditas presents it. This will give you a solid experiential foundation from which to share the labyrinth with others.

All Veriditas Labyrinth Facilitator Trainings are preceded by a Qualifying Workshop, which, in Australia, is led by a Veriditas Trainer, or an Advanced Labyrinth Facilitator who has been approved by Veriditas to lead these workshops.

what topics are covered in the facilitator training

Depending on the particular interests of participants, training will focus on the following, all of which is covered in the Training Manual:
  • Different models, i.e. workshops, conferences, public walks, retreats.
  • Communicating in the "language" of your audience.
  • Designing both the approach and content for presentations
  • History of labyrinths and their symbolic meaning
  • The difference between archetypal and contemporary designs
  • Application to various settings: e.g. wellness centres, retreats, churches, hospices, schools, hospitals, prisons, corporate offices, community parks, multicultural centres, spirituality groups, special needs groups such as cancer support, trauma informed work, children-at-risk, those who are physically challenged, and for supervision, coaching, mentoring, and spiritual companioning of individuals or groups.
  • Meditative walking, ceremonial use, and rites of passage
  • Specific applications: as a path of prayer, in dream work, asking a question of discernment, and many more
  • How to hold space before, during, and after the walk
  • Unusual experiences in the labyrinth
  • Managing time and space between participants on the walk
  • How to interact with the media, which the labyrinth attracts.
  • The business aspects of presenting the labyrinth: fees for your time, considering non-profit status, distributing literature, brochures, copyright concer

We recommend you read Walking A Sacred Path and Sacred Path Companion by Lauren Artress before your Facilitator Training begins. The books are available from several online book-sellers.
